The APG uses counterflow cooling to reduce the temperature of the hot pellets gently and evenly. This strengthens the surface of the pellets and improves their consistency, resulting in optimum quality and storability. Very little cold air is needed – just 1,200 m3 per tonne – which greatly reduces the energy requirement. The drive unit may be pneumatic, hydraulic or electric and is equally energy-efficient. The high exhaust air temperature eliminates condensation problems. The design of the APG is simple but effective and allows clean unloading.
